Mrs. Paula Smith
2nd Grade

Beginning Wednesday, March 25,  I will set up assignments for each student on the I-ready website. The following PDF highlighted in green will help you understand what this program is and how it will help us stay in touch with each other on your child's progress.

iready-pd-family-guide-2019-1.pdf   (Cut and past this link into a new browser if necessary.)

Students will log in on

Username:  first initial, last initial, lunch number

Password:  student ID

For example, my username would be ps123456

                                              password: 123456

I honestly can't believe it's already March!  We have had a wonderful year, and now things have been turned upside down!  We are definitely in unchartered waters, but we will get through it.

Hopefully everyone has received my texts and is using some of my ideas to keep your children busy and learning.  Over the next few days, I will add more detailed assignments so your children can continue to learn what he/she needs to be prepared for third grade.

About the Teacher

I have been married to my wonderful husband, Kirk, for 25 years, and we live in Hernando, MS. We also have two great kids, Kaylee and Brayden.  Kaylee is a Senior this year, and Brayden is a sophomore.

During my free time, I love spending time doing things with my family outdoors.  I am also a passionate gardener.   I love getting my hands dirty!  I also have a passion for teaching.  I absolutely love spending time with my students and watching them grow into mature readers and thinkers.  I pray for my students daily that each one will do well in school and in their daily lives so that each one can reach his/her potential.

My Teaching Experience

I can hardly believe it, but this is 24th year to teach!  My first 13 years were spent teaching in the Memphis City Schools.  While there, I spent five years in first grade and four years teaching third grade.  The other years were spent as Reading/Curriculum Coordinator, where I was able to work closely with administration and classroom teachers.  While that was a great opportunity for me, I realized that my heart belonged in the classroom!

After spending a few years at home when my children were little, I went back to teaching in Mississippi, where I taught first grade for six years.  Most recently, I have been teaching 4th and 5th grade for the last three years here at LCES,  and this year, I'm really happy to go back to the younger students.
