Class Schedule  

Each day we begin our mornings with a brief independent reading, while lunch counts, class roll, the Pledge of Allegiance, and other quick business is taken care of. 

8:30 to 8:50 - This is a block of time allowed for unit study, class novels, or affix study. 

8:50 to 9:40 - Writing Time - Throughout the year the students will write and publish pieces from various genres 

9:40 to 9:45 - Bathroom break

9:45 to 11:00 - Reading - This includes a short reading lesson, a vocabulary lesson, and independent reading time. During independent reading time, I am conferences with individual students, having book chats with students, or pulling small groups of students to work on skills that need improving. 

11:00 to 11:25 - Lunch

11:25 to 11:30 - Restroom

11:30 to 12:15 - Science - If your child is not already talking about the fun things going on in science, then ask them. Retelling what they have learned is a great way to study!

12:15 to 12:45 - Recess 

12:45 to 1:30 - Activity - Monday = PE, Tuesday = Music, Wednesday = Library, Thursday = Computer, Friday = Art

1:30 to 3:15 - Math - The first 10 to 15 minutes are a mini lesson of the current skill we are learning. The students then rotate through 4 stations each day. One station is a fluency (math facts) station. The second station is a "Teacher Choice" station. The activities in this station depend on what I feel they, as a class, need the most. Sometimes this is a review of something they previously learned. Other times it is extra practice on a current skill. This station is typically in a fun format, such as a game. The third station is an independent practice station. Students are given current skill practice at this time. The work completed during this time helps me know how well they are comprehending the current skill and guides my focus lesson for the next day as well as the lesson for station 4. The 4th station is at the table with me. During this time, I am working with students with manipulatives and/or other tools to help them. This station allows each student in my room independent time with me each day! 

3:15 to 3:20 - Clean up the classroom time!

3:20 - Dismissal procedures begin
